The usually crowded Ernakulathappan Ground in Kochi now has a different charm and aromatic breeze as it hosted the 35th edition of the Cochin Flower Show organised by the Ernakulam District Horticulture Society.
Hundreds of floral exhibits in various sizes, colours and splendour, greeted the visitors, who thronged the place to enjoy the beautiful sights and scents. The show inaugurated by Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar was being flocked by people even on the third day.
This year’s show is the largest one with over 40,000 plants on display. The 4-6-feet high floral installation of a woman in a gown is an attraction of the event. Another installation is that of high heel stilettos made of dry flowers.
Bonsais, fresh flowers, mostly different varieties of roses, Thailand orchids, Adeenium, Petunia, Dalia, Gerbera, Salvia and varieties of marigold, rare medicinal plants, tree varieties mentioned in star signs and hanging plants and gardens made of discarded items add to the show’s attraction.
A regular at the flower show, Anu Maria says, “This time, there are a lot more collections than before and very innovative installations. It is a soothing experience to see such varieties of flowers in one go.”
The show is open from 9 am to 9 pm till Sunday. Entry is free.
