Hyderabad: Nehru Zoological Park is gearing up for winter by making seasonal adjustments for animals. Zoo officials said that although it was an every-year affair, this year they were particularly careful following the death of a lion cub in the zoo.
Room heaters have been put up in all enclosures of leopards, tigers, jaguars, chimpanzees, baboons among others.
On instructions from zoo veterinarians, open night cages of animals have been covered up for warmth and to guard against chilly winds causing pneumonia in animals.
The reptile house has been provided with dry straw and extra bulbs for heating.
Air-conditioning will remain shut from November to January in the nocturnal animal centre which houses owls, bats and jungle cats.
