Apple is eliminating the home button to make room for a larger screen in one of the models it is scheduled to release this September, reported Bloomberg.

According to the report, one version the next iPhone will favour new gesture controls for tasks like going to the main app and opening multitasking instead of a home button.

This all is being tested to feature a ‘crisper screen’. In the new variant, users will find a thin software bar in lieu of the home button that can be moved around to perform different actions, Bloomberg says. Drag it up to the middle of the screen to open the phone, or if when insider an app, to start multitasking.

Apple is rumoured to launch three iPhone models – a premium iPhone named iPhone 8 and update to two iPhone 7 models, likely to be called iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus on September 12. Among all, only the premium iPhone is believed to come with all major changes including no home button, OLED display and advanced faced recognition technology, marking 10th anniversary of the original iPhone.

If rumours are to be believed the iPhone 8 will cost about $999 to buyers, almost $350 more than the standard iPhone available today.
