Hyderabad: Six organs of a B. Tech student who was declared brain dead were donated by his family to the government’s Jeevandaan scheme on Wednesday. Vijay Kumar, 20, who was studying in a college in Raichur, was returning home from college on a two-wheeler when he was hit by a lorry on September 11.

Kumar, who suffered a severe head injury, was rushed to a local hospital in Raichur. His father, Mr Basawa Raju, said, “The doctors gave him first aid and referred the case to Continental Hospitals in Hyderabad. He was given treatment for two days but the response was poor according to the doctors.”

Kumar was declared brain dead by the neurosurgeon on Wednesday. His family was counselled for organ donation. Mr Basawa Raju and brother Rajendra Prasad agreed to donate six of Kumar’s organs — two kidneys, two eyes, the liver and the pancreas.
