A couple got the biggest surprise of their lives after the woman who was admitted in hospital for severe pain ended up giving birth to their child. They had initially thought that the pain was simply due to a kidney stone issue and had absolutely no idea about a pregnancy.
Stephanie Jaeger’s husband, Michael, wrote a post about their incredible experience on social media. Upon arriving at the hospital and getting examined by a doctor, they found out that she was already 38 weeks pregnant and was expected to deliver the baby. She gave birth to their son – Shaun Jude Jaegers – at 3:50am last Wednesday. Michael also had an explanation for how the couple had no clue about the pregnancy:
Steph was diagnosed with pre-menopause awhile back, which would justify the hormone imbalance also associated with a pregnancy. Shaun [the newborn baby] was also breech throughout the entire pregnancy which prevented him from moving around to indicate to Steph that he was in there and his position made it to where Steph didn’t ’show.’ The most bizarre part is she continued to have a menstrual cycle, which the hospital tells us is rare, but can happen. Lastly, Steph broke her ankle a couple of weeks ago and was laid up for the last couple of weeks limiting her movements. All of this together ruled out in our minds even the remote possibility of a pregnancy. Hope this helps explain a bit about how/why this birth came as such a shock to us. I can’t even begin to explain to you guys the range of emotions we’ve experienced over the last 12 hours. I went from googling ’kidney stone treatments’ to a panic attack over the fact that not only were we pregnant, but the baby was coming within the hour. “
Luckily, as the couple are already parents to three other children, they even have some old baby clothes that helped them in the emergency haul.
