How to install mysql-server on Debian Unstable (Sid)

Install mysql-server

Installing mysql-server package on Debian Unstable (Sid) is as easy as running the following command on terminal:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mysql-server

description MySQL database server (metapackage depending on the latest version)

Uninstall mysql-server

To remove just mysql-server package itself from Debian Unstable (Sid) execute on terminal:

sudo apt-get remove mysql-server

Uninstall mysql-server and it’s dependent packages

To remove the mysql-server package and any other dependant package which are no longer needed from Debian Sid.

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove mysql-server

Purging mysql-server

If you also want to delete configuration and/or data files of mysql-server from Debian Sid then this will work:

sudo apt-get purge mysql-server

To delete configuration and/or data files of mysql-server and it’s dependencies from Debian Sid then execute:

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove mysql-server
