How to install nis on Debian Unstable (Sid)

Install nis

Installing nis package on Debian Unstable (Sid) is as easy as running the following command on terminal:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nis

nis package information

distro Debian Unstable (Sid)
section Main
name nis
version 3.17-34
description clients and daemons for the Network Information Service (NIS)

Uninstall nis

To remove just nis package itself from Debian Unstable (Sid) execute on terminal:

sudo apt-get remove nis

Uninstall nis and it’s dependent packages

To remove the nis package and any other dependant package which are no longer needed from Debian Sid.

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove nis

Purging nis

If you also want to delete configuration and/or data files of nis from Debian Sid then this will work:

sudo apt-get purge nis

To delete configuration and/or data files of nis and it’s dependencies from Debian Sid then execute:

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove nis
