How to install openssl on Debian Unstable (Sid)

Install openssl

Installing openssl package on Debian Unstable (Sid) is as easy as running the following command on terminal:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openssl

openssl package information

distro Debian Unstable (Sid)
section Main
name openssl
version 1.0.2g-1
description Secure Sockets Layer toolkit – cryptographic utility
subsection utils
maintainer Debian OpenSSL Team

Uninstall openssl

To remove just openssl package itself from Debian Unstable (Sid) execute on terminal:

sudo apt-get remove openssl

Uninstall openssl and it’s dependent packages

To remove the openssl package and any other dependant package which are no longer needed from Debian Sid.

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove openssl

Purging openssl

If you also want to delete configuration and/or data files of openssl from Debian Sid then this will work:

sudo apt-get purge openssl

To delete configuration and/or data files of openssl and it’s dependencies from Debian Sid then execute:

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove openssl
