How to install samba on Debian Unstable (Sid)

Install samba

Installing samba package on Debian Unstable (Sid) is as easy as running the following command on terminal:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install samba

samba package information

distro Debian Unstable (Sid)
section Main
name samba
version 2:4.3.8+dfsg-1
description SMB/CIFS file, print, and login server for Unix
subsection net
maintainer Debian Samba Maintainers

Uninstall samba

To remove just samba package itself from Debian Unstable (Sid) execute on terminal:

sudo apt-get remove samba

Uninstall samba and it’s dependent packages

To remove the samba package and any other dependant package which are no longer needed from Debian Sid.

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove samba

Purging samba

If you also want to delete configuration and/or data files of samba from Debian Sid then this will work:

sudo apt-get purge samba

To delete configuration and/or data files of samba and it’s dependencies from Debian Sid then execute:

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove samba
